Aliento offers families a lot to love. Spacious homes and yards, hiking trails and play areas, gathering spaces and a resort-style clubhouse. Even an acclaimed elementary school just outside the gates.
Golden Oak Community School, part of Sulphur Springs Union School District, opened in 2008. Superintendent Catherine Kawaguchi, Ed.D., is excited for new families from Aliento to be part of the school. “Families are welcomed and encouraged to partner with us,” she says. “Golden Oak is very family- and community-focused. More than 100 parents currently volunteer at the school.”
Dr. Kawaguchi adds that parents help in the classroom, on the PTA, at school festivals and in a variety of other ways, both during the school day and before and after, giving working parents the opportunity to participate as well.
Golden Oak offers a special focus on arts and music as well as technology, with indoor and outdoor performing spaces, plus Smart Boards, iPads and Chromebooks in every classroom. In addition, Golden Oak has wet and dry science labs, a Maker Space lab and coding instruction beginning in kindergarten going all the way up to sixth grade.
“We make sure technology is integrated into the core curriculum, using it in math, language arts, reading and science,” says Dr. Kawaguchi. Teachers emphasize cooperative learning and group presentations.
The school celebrates its students with regular Wise Owl recognition for those who exhibit good attitude and character, and frequent assemblies to build community, with families always welcome.
Golden Oak also gives students the opportunity to participate in after-school programs including band, chorus, chess, Mad Science, All-Stars and sixth grade robotics.
The hillside campus of Golden Oak has separate outside play areas for kindergarten and upper grades. Attractive wrought iron fencing surrounds the school, with a single point of access.
When children attend school within their neighborhood, Dr. Kawaguchi points out, they form stronger bonds with classmates, and parent participation increases. “I am excited that Aliento families will be right next door, so they can attend school events and participate in the classroom and create that sense of community.”
When you choose Aliento, your children gain access to a first-rate education in all the important subjects, including friends, family and community.
